2.1. Create outersite-me.net outersite

2.1.1. Introduction

This first tutorial will teach you how to take www.outersite-me.net off-line and make it an outersite, a portable dynamic website without the Net.

You will have full webmaster access to this site while we guide you in creating your OutSite-In project.

www.outersite-me.net is a dynamic website which uses the Dotclear Content Management System.

Data and document files are light, for your first, quick test of OutSite-In before you build an outersite of your own site in the second tutorial.

2.1.2. Step 1: Search for your files

Launch OutSite-In. Select the option My files are on a FTP server. Click Edit and enter the information to connect to the outersite-me website files:

  • FTP Host: outersite-me.net

  • FTP User: outersite-me

  • FTP Password: outerpass

  • Root directory: /

Then click Import files.

Select Download all.

Once the files have been imported, check that all files were copied to: Program Files\OutSite-In\OpenedProject\Source\Files by clicking Edit the files... Click to go to the Data tabsheet.

2.1.3. Step 2: Import your data

Select I use a MySQL database. Click Edit and enter the information to connect to the outersite-me website database:

  • MySQL User: outersit

  • MySQL Password: passmysql

To import the outersite-me website database, go to: http://www.outersite-me.net/export.sql, then copy the export.sql script to your computer. Click Browse to access to the sql script. Click Import data.

Select Download all.

Once the import is complete, click Edit the database...

2.1.4. Step 3: Select your options

Click to modify your outersite's name. Enter your outersite's name and version. Select Password Protected if you wish to protect your project with a password. Enter a password and then confirm it.

[Professional Edition] Adjust the compression level to reduce your project file (*.oip) size. Keep in mind that a high compression level means more time to open your project within OutSite-In.

Click on OK to validate.

In My outersite home page, click on Browse…then select the dotclear/index.php file.

2.1.5. Step 4: Customize your outersite

Leave the default customization options. The splash screens and outersite icon will be those shown on the picture above.

2.1.6. Step 5: Generate your outersite

Click Generate… to create your outersite or from the menu bar select Generate->Generate your outersite. The outersite generation window will appear. Select Create an outersite CD-Rom/DVD-Rom/ USB-key of your website … Select Keep your outersite pre-installed on users computers. Then click Browse... and select your outersite output location. Click Generate!

Once outersite generation has been completed, click on Open the outersite output directory and double-click Autorun.exe to launch your outersite.

The Outersite-me outersite appears.

2.1.7. Step 6: Save your project

In the OutSite-In menu bar, select Project->Save to save your project (*.oip). Select the destination folder.
